Under Threat - Overfishing in UK Waters Means Puffins Face Extinction
Acrylic on Board, 2023 | A3, Black Box Frame, Ready to Hang
Puffin populations are rapidly declining, with conservationists raising alarms about overfishing of sand eels and whitebait. This depletion of food sources is leading to starvation and the death of many seabirds, including puffins. The threat is compounded by climate change and overfishing by EU boats in UK waters, putting puffins on the brink of extinction.
The unique blue background in this painting symbolizes the diminishing food supply and the shrinking habitat for our native puffins. I wanted to create a high-impact piece, using a wash effect to emphasize the vulnerability of these birds.
This A3-sized piece was painted with vegan acrylics on hand-prepared MDF board, gloss varnished for protection, and framed in a sleek black box frame (without glass). It will be dispatched via next-day delivery with DPD, or collection can be arranged.
