The eye of the storm
Acrylic on bamboo paper in second hand black glass frame, 2025 | 22cm x 16.5cm
This piece is part of my mini collection, a dive into experimentation of techniques while also showcasing the incredible mini beasts we share our local environment with. They are a reminder to slow down and really relish the small joys we come across daily.
I love that this piece could be interpreted in many ways; is the bat flying above a large wave? Is this a thunderstorm in the clouds? Is this a swirling river with jagged rocks? Whatever you may see, it's clear the little pipistrelle bat is flying confidently on, knowing his wings will carry him through.
There must be times bats are caught out with unexpected changes to the weather, I wonder how they feel in that moment, I feel like pipistrelles are so stoic, they would just turn and fly home. I'd love this piece to be a reminder of how even when life feels like an absolute stormy mess, your wings will carry you home. You can do this.
